Florida is not known for it's incredible waves. However, if you have a flexible schedule and you know the right spots, you can score some very fun rides. One of the many great things about stand up paddle boarding is the increase in water time you receive from the sport. Waves that would normally be sub-par and almost un-surfable become fun and exciting when you have a SUP. I have had many fun stand up paddle surf sessions in St. Pete when there is barely a knee high wave. If all I had was a longboard, surfing would have proven impossible. Summer is the time for hot weather and afternoon thunderstorms in Florida. It is important to take into account the local weather if you are a stand up paddler who enjoys paddling everyday. In Florida and most other states, afternoon thunderstorms are a common occurrence in the summer months. Tampa Bay is the lightning capital of the world, so we have our fare share of thunderstorms. Stand up paddle to beat the heat in St. Pete

I have been traveling for over a month and recently returned home to St. Pete Beach. This morning I woke up to go for a stand up paddle. I got caught up doing some work and did not make it to the Water Monkey waterfront until about 10 AM. I hit the water on my stand up paddle board for an hour of paddling around St. Pete Beach and Treasure Island. The weather was great, but a bit on the hot side. Luckily I had my CamelBak to keep me hydrated as I paddled hard.  View Full Post
