Warm Weather for Paddleboarding in St. Pete

Thursday, April 27, 2017 | Chase Kosterlitz

Winter is far behind us and the warm paddle boarding weather is here to stay in St. Pete. Water Monkey stand up paddle board rentals, lessons and tours are in full swing and we are cruising into summer. Our stand up paddle board nature tours have been encountering a variety of wildlife each trip. Stand up paddle boarders are seeing dolphins, fish, rays, sea birds and more on our stand up paddle nature tours in beautiful Ft. Desoto Park.

Ft. Desoto is only 30 minutes from Tampa and 15 minutes from downtown St. Pete or St. Pete Beach. The flat water and shallow grass flats are protected by mangrove islands. This provides ideal conditions for stand up paddling. We believe that our launch location is the gateway to the best stand up paddle boarding in St. Pete, Tampa and the entire state of Florida! Book a stand up paddle lesson, rental or tour with Water Monkey to see for yourself.

When you book a stand up paddle nature tour with Water Monkey you will see what makes Ft. Desoto Park so special. Our head instructor, Jason, will meet you with your boards at the waters edge before your SUP tour. If you've never paddled before, Jason will guide you through the basics of getting up and paddling for the first time. The beauty of stand up paddling is that it is fun and easy for people of all abilities and backgrounds. Our professional instruction will help ensure you have a great time on the water.

After a brief introduction on land, we will head to the water where you will start in a shallow and friendly atmosphere. As I said earlier, I believe this location provides some of the most scenic and beginner friendly paddling in all of the St. Pete/Tampa areas. Not too mention it's one of the prettiest places to paddle in all of Florida!

Once on the water you will head north toward a protected bird sanctuary called Shell Key. Shell Key is a leisurely 20 minute paddle from our launch location. Along the way you will be able to spot a variety of wildlife that may include dolphin, manatee, fish, rays and sea birds. All of the wildlife is easy to spot from your upright position on your stand up paddle board.

Once you arrive to Sand Key you will be able to dismount your paddleboard and explore the island. We are often the only people out at the secluded beach, adding to a special experience. In the distance you will be able to see most of St. Pete Beach. Our stand up paddle nature tour is one of the most popular stand up paddle options that we offer. It's sure to be a memorable experience during your stay in the St. Pete Beach or Tampa areas. Call or book online to reserve your spot in our stand up paddle nature tour today!
